Introduction & utilization of donation

Helidoni Foundation is proud to support AFI (Action Finance Initiative), Greece’s first non-banking microfinance institution, founded in 2014 by ActionAid Hellas and the French microcredit pioneer ADIE. With a mission to fight economic and social exclusion, AFI provides access to financing and business development services for individuals traditionally excluded from the banking system. Its vision is to create sustainable economic opportunities for underserved entrepreneurs.

This new grant from Helidoni Foundation aims to raise public awareness of microfinance and strengthen AFI’s capacity to deliver inclusive financial and business services across Greece. Running from June 2025 through January 2026, the funding supports several key initiatives that will enhance the organization’s impact and visibility.

Specifically, the donation enables AFI to enrich its Business Development Services (BDS) by funding essential headcount and expanding operational capacity. The organization’s website and IT platform will be upgraded to improve user experience and service delivery. A refreshed marketing and media campaign will showcase AFI’s work, supported by professional production, creative services, and paid outreach. This includes the creation of a new Social Return on Investment (SROI) report to better communicate the social value generated through AFI’s efforts.

The grant also supports AFI’s participation in European networks, including funding for bids, platform memberships, and collaboration with EU initiatives. These strategic efforts will contribute to the organization’s long-term sustainability and alignment with broader policy and funding ecosystems.

Beyond the grant period, AFI will continue to deliver on its mission by leveraging its internal resources and cultivating new partnerships. Helidoni Foundation’s support acts as a critical enabler of growth and awareness, helping pave the way toward a more inclusive financial future in Greece.
